On March 8, 2017, International Women’s Day, lead organizers of the Women’s March staged a sit-in outside of an International Trump Hotel in New York City, blocking mid-day traffic around Columbus Circle.
The direct action was part of a larger day of protests on International Women’s Day under slogans including “A Day Without Women” and “International Women’s Strike.”
At Columbus Circle, several demonstrators were taken into custody by law enforcement using zip-tie handcuffs. Among those arrested were Women’s March co-chairs Linda Sarsour, Tamika Mallory, Carmen Perez, Bob Bland, and Paola Mendoza.
Below are up-close photos showing how the unpronounced action unfolded in the street.
